We have decided that the solution is to make the arabic quotes in picture formats. The negatives to this is:
One of the unique Prophecies of the Prophet Muhammad is that he predicted the Arabian Pennisula would become green, and flowing with rivers before the day of Judgment.
There is disagreement regarding the permissibility of marrying a woman from the people of the Book. The following research is a collection of quotes and opinions ranging from permissibility to Makruh to Haraam.
Allah, the exalted, says in the Qur’an:
وَلا تَنْكِحُوا الْمُشْرِكَاتِ حَتَّى يُؤْمِنَّ
“And do not marry pagan women (Mushrikaat) until they believe.” [2:221]
This is a general verse declaring that the pagan women are forbidden to marry Muslim men, and vice versa. However, there is a specific (khaas) verse wherein Allah ta’alaa states,
“This day [all] good foods have been made lawful, and the food of those who were given the Scripture is lawful for you and your food is lawful for them. And [lawful in marriage are] chaste women from among the believers and chaste women from among those who were given the Scripture before you…” [5:5]
A good friend of mine who has quite a few kafir friends(jews, christians as well as atheists etc.) recently mentioned to me that has been getting tired of all the “jokes” an d “humour” that they make around in him in regards to Islam. This leads me to mention the question: is it permissible to take jews and Christians and other kuffar as friends? Is it permissible to eat and drink with them casually without any benefit?
I recall hearing a christian once tell me that my religion, “Izlam”, was not a religion of forgiveness & mercy. In fact, in his view, it is impossible for God to forgive sins without “sacrifice”, as he saw it. No matter what verses I quoted him, ahadith (narratives of the Prophet Muhammad), or scholarly quotes, he was adamant that the Qur’an does not preach forgiveness of man’s sins. One can guide the donkey to the water, but can not make him drink. I believe that a single verse from the Qur’an can respond to the christian view, or anyone else’s view, that Islam is a religion that teaches God will forgive as long as one is sincerely repentant.
“Say, [God says], My servants who have harmed yourselves by your own excess, do not despair of God’s mercy. God forgives all sins: He is truly the Most Forgiving, Most Merciful.”
Imam An-Nawawi states that it is loved that one visit the graves of the Muslims especially the people who were known for of spiritual virtue (fadl) and goodness (khayr). He states that one should recite much Qur’an as well as perform ritual dhikr. He also states that du’aa (supplication) should be made for the people of the grave one is visiting, the rest of those around him, and of the Muslims. In fact he wrote an entire chapter regarding the different words and actions one should say or perform at the grave.1
A brother, may Allah guide him and us, recently asserted that Musaa (’alayhis salaam) told Fir’awn that Allah was “up”, and this resulted in Fir’awn building a tower to reach the “heavens”. The aayaat from the Qur’an that he is referring to follow:
وقال فرعون يا أيها الملأ ما علمت لكم من إله غيري فأوقد لي يا هامان على الطين فاجعل لي صرحا لعلي أطلع إلى إله موسى وإني لأظنه من الكاذبين
Pharaoh said: “O Chiefs! no god do I know for you but myself: therefore, O Haman! light me a (kiln to bake bricks) out of clay, and build me a lofty palace, that I may mount up to the god of Moses: but as far as I am concerned, I think (Moses) is a liar!” [28:38]
Pharaoh said: “O Haman! Build me a lofty palace, that I may attain the ways and means- The ways and means of (reaching) the heavens, and that I may mount up to the god of Moses: But as far as I am concerned, I think (Moses) is a liar!” [Qur'an 40:36-37]
We shall reproduce here a discussion presented by the Imam of the two Harams, Al-Juwayni - The Shaykh of Imam Al-Ghazzali, responding to the Karramiyyah, a group of anthropomorphists around 300 A.H, as well as the entire group of anthropomorphists that existed until his passing (rahimahullah). You will notice that many of the arguments he refutes are still, to this very day, utilized by the neo-Muqatilliyyah.
Our brothers at Ma’rifah, may Allah continue to bless them with His immense Mercy, have just released a well translated biography of the khalifat of Abul-Hasan Ash-Shadhili, Abul-’Abbas Al-Mursi (radhiya Allahu ‘anhumaa). He was the Shaykh of the famous Ibn ‘Ataa’illah Al-Iskandari and a qutb of his time. Have a read!
In the audio file attached (mp3, part of the Lahore Suhba of 2007), Shaykh Nuh Keller is asked by new mureeds of the Shadhili Tariqah to demonstrate how the Shadhilis do dhikr of the Supreme name:الله Allah.
If you cannot listen to the lecture for whatever reason then here is the upshot:
Abu Hurayrah (radhiya Allahu ‘Anhu) said that Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said, “If anyone lies on his side while not remembering Allah the exalted, deprivation (tirah) will descend upon him on the day of Judgement ; and whoever sits in a place without remembering Allah, the glorious and magnificent, , deprivation with descend upon him on the day of judgment.”
